Published Research!

Having completed my MA in Music Psychology in Performance, Education, and Wellbeing last July (with Distinction!), I dared to imagine that others would find my research interesting. My efforts have paid off, and I am now the author of a published article in the International Journal of Music, Health and Wellbeing.

The article ("Combined Music and Movement Based Entrainment Activities Positively Impact Sharing Capacity Exhibited in the School Environment by Children aged 4 – 5 years") is available via Open Access, and explores how movement and musical entrainment activities can lead to enhanced prosocial behaviours in young children. "Entrainment" is simultaneously an incredibly complex and completely basic concept, with which we are all familiar. Most simply, it can be described as "in synch". Tapping your foot to music, taking turns in a conversation, mirroring body movements - all entrainment. During the interventions in the study, I devised ways in which to ensure children entrained using music and movement. Ultimately, I hope others will continue research in this field, and I'm going to start considering how I can share the benefits of the findings with others, including training, creating resources, and raising awareness.
