The first sessions at a care home close to Salisbury seem to be going well, according to the media! I am visiting the home fortnightly, and having done just a few sessions so far, it's lovely to get to know some of the regular attendees. I must say, I'm mostly incredibly jealous of the fact that they have the option of wine with lunch!
I hasten to add, that at no point have I sold myself as a music therapist. Like many professional titles, this is reserved for those with accredited qualifications only, which does not include me. Unfortunately, this is common misunderstanding of the general public when describing music sessions which may well be "therapeutic". That aside, I am delighted to be going in and making music with this community, leading then in vocal work (excellent for breathing and confidence in later life), beat keeping and action challenges (awakening neural pathways and dexterity), and percussion exercises (bonding and entrainment).
